Adam Jackson in the Express & Echo

Back in October 2008, I met with Adam Jackson, a 24 year old Exeter University Student, who at the time weighed 22 stone! We started training together 3 times a week and initially our training goal was motivated primarily by weight loss. I kept our sessions varied with a combination of weights and cardiovascular training, although our cardio sessions were limited in the beginning to power walking and short interval runs. I did focus quite a lot on improving Adam’s diet and even took him food shopping. After Christmas Adam’s training was going brilliantly and he had lost an amazing 3 stone; so we agreed to up the stakes and we entered the Great West Run (a very hilly half-marathon, around the streets of Exeter). Adam had no previous half-marathon experience, so our sessions became very focussed on preparing him and his body for the event.  I did fortnightly weigh-ins to monitor Adam’s progress. Our final weigh-in was a few days before the Great West Run and Adam weighed in at 16stone 6lbs- a total loss of 5 stone 8lbs- utterly amazing!! He also lost 12 inches from around his waist and 8 inches from his chest. He went on to complete the Great West Run in 2 hours 20seconds!! I am so proud of Adam, all his hard work really paid off.
